Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Legal Mind Master, from how the mind maps work to what AI tools are included in each plan.

General

Legal Mind Master is a visual bar exam study platform that combines interactive mind maps, AI-powered essay grading, MBE practice questions, flashcards, and spaced repetition. It covers all 11 bar exam subjects with 889 legal terms organized into an interconnected visual framework.

Traditional bar prep courses rely on long video lectures and dense outlines. Legal Mind Master takes a visual-first approach — you learn through interactive mind maps that show how legal concepts connect to each other. It also includes AI essay grading with inline feedback, AI-generated MBE questions that are never the same twice, and spaced repetition to lock in what you learn. Many students use it alongside their primary course.

All 7 MBE subjects (Torts, Contracts & Sales, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law & Procedures, Evidence, Real Property, Civil Procedures) plus 4 California-specific subjects (Professional Responsibility, Business Associations, Wills & Trusts, Remedies). That is 11 subjects total with 889 legal terms.

Legal Mind Master is designed as a supplementary study tool that works best alongside a traditional bar prep course. It fills the gaps that lecture-based programs leave, especially for visual learners who struggle with outline-heavy approaches. We recommend using multiple resources for complete bar exam preparation.

Exam Coverage

Yes. All 8 NextGen subjects are fully covered with 690 terms. Every term is tagged by exam scope, and 427 terms are mapped to NCBE starred sub-topics — the concepts tested without legal resources on the NextGen exam. Use the 'Must Memorize' filter in the mind map or All Terms page to focus on pure-recall material. The same mind maps, flashcards, issue spotting, and AI tools work for both the NextGen UBE and the California bar exam — just filter by your exam.

Features

The mind map is a visual universe of legal concepts on a clean paper canvas. You start zoomed out seeing all 11 subjects arranged around a central mastery hub, then zoom in to explore topics and individual terms — or switch to the Path view for a guided, stage-by-stage learning path per subject. Each term shows its definition, examples, exceptions, and landmark cases. Terms are connected by relationship lines showing how concepts relate. You can filter by exam scope (CA Bar or NextGen UBE), click any topic to focus on it, follow learning paths step by step, or explore freely.

Write a bar exam essay response and submit it for AI grading powered by Claude. You get two types of feedback: inline annotations that highlight your essay section by section with color-coded ratings (strong, adequate, needs work) and specific comments, plus a full model IRAC answer (Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion) for comparison. The AI uses your name and gives personalized, actionable feedback.

When you master a term, it is automatically scheduled for review using the SM-2 algorithm. The system calculates optimal review intervals — terms you find easy are shown less frequently, while difficult ones come back sooner. This evidence-based method helps you retain information long-term instead of cramming and forgetting.

AI generates fresh multiple-choice questions in the style of the Multistate Bar Exam. Unlike static question banks where you memorize answers, every question is original. You can practice a single subject (up to 10 questions) or use Interleaved mode to mix all 7 MBE subjects in one session of up to 30 questions — automatically weighted toward your weakest areas based on your 30-day accuracy history. After answering, you get detailed explanations for all four choices — not just why the right answer is right, but why each wrong answer is wrong. Concept chips link each question back to the mind map.

Learning paths are structured, step-by-step study sequences for each subject. Each step introduces a small group of related terms on the mind map, building your understanding progressively from foundational concepts to advanced topics. They guide you through the material in a logical order rather than leaving you to figure out where to start.

AI Tools

Essay grading uses Anthropic's Claude (Sonnet model) for detailed, high-quality feedback. MBE question generation and AI term chat use Claude Haiku for fast responses. All AI features are built specifically for legal education with carefully engineered prompts.

Ultimate subscribers can grade up to 60 essays per month. Free account holders get 1 lifetime trial essay grading (email verification required). Pro subscribers do not have access to AI essay grading — it is an Ultimate-tier feature.

AI term chat lets you ask questions about any legal term directly from the mind map. It acts as a study buddy — you can ask things like 'Give me an example of this' or 'How does this differ from [related concept]?' Ultimate subscribers get 1,000 chats per month with a limit of 3 per individual term per day.

The AI provides substantive, detailed feedback that identifies issues spotted and missed, evaluates your legal analysis, and provides a full IRAC model answer for comparison. It uses jurisdiction-aware prompts (federal/common law for MBE subjects, California codes for CA-specific subjects). While no AI replaces a human grader entirely, it gives you immediate, actionable feedback that helps you improve between practice sessions.

Yes. All AI features (essay grading, MBE questions, term chat, Ask Lexi) are powered by Anthropic Claude and may occasionally produce inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information. AI output should be treated as a supplementary study aid, not as authoritative legal analysis. Always cross-reference AI-generated feedback with your bar prep materials and primary legal sources. Legal Mind Master does not guarantee the accuracy of any AI-generated content.
