Definition

State statutes allowing media defendants to limit damages by publishing prompt retraction after demand. Typically requires timely retraction with equal prominence to original defamation. May bar punitive damages or limit plaintiff to special damages if timely retraction made. Encourages correction of errors. Applies to media defendants, not generally to individuals.
