Definition

Mistaken belief about ownership or right to possess chattels is no defense to intentional torts to property. Even honest and reasonable mistake about ownership does not negate intent. Defendant liable for conversion or trespass to chattels if interferes with another's possessory rights, regardless of good faith belief in own rights.
